Grant Schwab reporting in the field near wind turbines

My specialty is data journalism, though radio was my first love. I'm adept at data visualization and have extensive training in causal inference. I write too.

Currently, I work as a Washington Correspondent for The Detroit News, focusing on automotive politics and policy. I was previously a fellow at the Redistricting Data Hub and an intern on POLITICO's data and graphics team.

Before I became a journalist in 2022, I was a nonpartisan public servant at the North Carolina General Assembly. I also worked as a data analysis teaching assistant at the University of Virginia, where I taught grad students the fundamentals of econometrics and how to code in Stata.

I switched careers because I wanted to tell engaging and informative stories about government, rather than do insulated work within it.
